It’s First Friday in Kansas City!  You know what that means…a weekend of art, shopping and food trucks.

Friday, Saturday & Sunday
Hang out in the West Bottoms shopping for unique finds and lunching at food trucks.  My favorite shops include Good JuJu, Nook & Cranny and Top Hat Mercantile.  You never know what you are going to find, whether it be a an antique ring, home decor or a piece of artwork.  Hours vary by shop.  It is best to arrive early (4:30 Friday evening or by 9:00 Saturday Morning).  Some stores are now open every weekend, so you can avoid the rush and visit next weekend, but you really must experience this First Friday event in full force at least once.

Friday Evening Only
Speaking of artwork, don’t miss out on First Friday at the Crossroads Art District.  All the galleries are open and feature different artists each month.  There are plenty of food wares and libations!  Eat at one of the restaurants in the Crossroads or a food truck.  Live performers line the streets to keep you entertained while walking from one gallery to the next.  I always try to arrive at about 4:30 to secure a parking spot (I have unreasonable anxiety about parking), and hang out at one of the restaurants for happy hour while waiting for others to arrive.  I suggest a new favorite, Extra Virgin.  You must order the Chickpea Fries and the Mixed Marinated Olives!

Here is a featured event to get you started, Love in Summer, at 2016 MAIN Gallery.  The Love in Summer exhibit features works depicting interpretations of love from five artists, three painters and two photographers.  This event is from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM.

Chicken n’ Pickle
First Hand Foundation is hosting a First Friday evening at Chicken n’ Pickle, with 10% off all food and drink sales going to First Hand Foundation.  The First Hand Foundation is a non-profit division of Cerner “dedicated to impacting the health of children, their families and communities through reactive and preventative initiatives.”  Round up your friends for an evening of good food, drinks and lawn games in support of a good cause.  Be sure to report back on your pickle ball skills.
