Hold up! Did I just type "August"? Can you believe it's August? Where has this year gone?

It is another First Friday in Kansas City! Check last month’s post for information about recurring activities for the weekend including tips for Friday nights at the Crossroads Art District and shopping at the West Bottoms. There are so many activities this weekend to support the City's art community. Be sure to check out one of the Kansas City Public Sponsored activities, the Strawberry Swing Indie Craft Fair or Arts Day at the K.  Support local!


Kansas City Public Library Events
August 4th @ 5:30PM, Central Library

Stop by the Kansas City Public Library this evening for a night of art. The Genevieve Guldner Gallery will be featuring Jessica Kincaids's The Beaded Image exhibit, as well as 50 images from the year's most pivotal events with winners of the 74th annual Pictures of the Year International, presented by The Rocky and Gabriella Mountain Gallery. Dancer Jeramy Zimmerman will be leading a troupe in an Art in the Loop presentation of Inscribed. There will also be activities for the kids, music and food.

August 4th @ 5:00PM - 6:00, Central Library

Silly walkways performers will be performing the last installment of this series this evening.  The event is directly influenced by the skit "The Ministry of Silly Walks" by The Monty Python Flying Circus.

The 7th Annual Summer Swing, Hosted by Strawberry Swing Indie Craft Fair
August 6th @ 10:00AM - 5:00PM, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art

Enjoy 100+ handmand & vintage vendors, food trucks, kids' crafts, a photobooth and more at The 7th Annual Summer Swing.  The first 100 who donate $20 to The Nelson-Atkins Museum will receive a Swag Bag, containing items donated by vendors.

The Kansas City Zoo
August 5th & 6th @ 1:00PM - 1:30PM

The Kansas City Fire Department will be hosing down the elephants for bath time at the Zoo between this weekend.

Tickets are $14.50 for adults, $11.50 for children 3 - 11, and free for children under the age of two. Discounted tickets are available for residents of Jackson and Clay.  Tickets may be purchased online or at the gate.  

SEA LIFE Kansas City Aquarium

SEA LIFE welcomes a new exhibit this weekend:  The Weedy Sea Dragons.  The aquarium is one of very few to house these amazing creatures.  

Tickets are available online and start at $14 for adults and $12 for children (ages 3 - 12).  Children 2 and under are free.

August 4th @ 6:00PM

Catch the last Weekender at Crown Center with music by the M80’s and Back to the Future.    Food vendors include Cheesy Pops' Pizza, Pita for Good, Kona Ice and Werner’s on Wheels and craft vendors include Emerald Thistle Gotta Have It! and Caricatures and Creations by Krueger.  Arrive at 6:00 to secure your spot on the lawn, movie starts at approximately 9:00.

Stop in at Pizzeria Locale on Friday and 50% of your purchase (including food, wine & beer) will be donated to KC Pet Project.  Be sure to mention KC Pet Project when checking out!

Kansas City Royals vs. Seattle Mariners
August 4th @ 7:15PM, 5th @ 6:15PM & 6th @ 1:15 PM, Kauffman Stadium

The Kansas City Royals are in town, battling the Seattle Mariners.  Show your support on one of the themed nights, including Arts Day at the K on Sunday, starting at 11:30 AM.  Purchase tickets online.



Sporting KC vs. Atlanta United FC
August 7th @ 7:00, Children's Mercy Park

Tickets start at $35 and may be purchased at the gate or online.
