It’s Labor Day weekend!  School is in, pools are closed, it’s officially okay to start eating all things pumpkin spice and okay to complain that it’s still too hot.  It’s also the first weekend in September.  You know what that means….First Friday in Kansas City!  


FEATURED

First Friday at The Crossroads Art District
Friday, September 1

I will be spending the evening at The Crossroads.  There are so many great artists and exhibits.  Some suggested galleries include Sherry Leedy Contemporary ArtCerbera Gallery2016 MAIN GalleryHintLeedy-Voulkos Art Center and Todd Weiner Gallery.

Saturday, September 2nd @ 9:00AM - 4:00PM

Shop goods from 20 local hand makers, enjoy music from The Nite Owls and Whiskey Just After Breakfast, and food from Papa Keno’s Pizza and The Culinary Center.  

Grinter Farms

Enjoy the amazing site of a full field of sunflowers!  This field is only in bloom for a couple of weeks, so don’t miss your chance to view this amazing site.  Visit the Grinter Farms Facebook page for suggestions for directions, parking and behavior in the field.  Please be courteous and follow the rule, leave nothing behind buy your footprints (and maybe a few dollars in the donation box). 


FESTIVALS

September 1st - 3rd, Crown Center Plaza
Friday 5:00PM - 11:00PM, Saturday 11:00AM - 11:00PM, Sunday 11:00AM - 11:00PM

Music, dance, comedy, workshops, shopping, food and beer!  It’s the Kansas City Irish Fest!

General admission single day tickets are $18 for adults and $7 for children ages 3 - 12 (plus taxes and fees).  Weekend passes are available for $30 (plus taxes and fees).  Tickets may be purchased in advance online.

September 1st - September 4th, Historic Independence Square
Friday 12:00PM - 12:00AM, Saturday 10:00AM - 12:00AM, Sunday 10:00AM - 12:00AM, Monday 10:00AM - 5:00PM

Come celebrate the 45th Annual Santa-Cali-Gon Days.  The festival commemorates the origin of the Santa Fe, California and Oregon trails traveled by the early pioneers.  Shop over 400 craft, food and commercial vendor booths, enjoy free live music and a carnival!  

Admission is free.  Parking is available at the Community of Christ Auditorium at 1001 W. Walnut.  Shuttles are available for $1 and pick up every 15 minutes.    

September 1st - 2nd, Kansas Speedway 
Friday 12:00PM - 10:30PM, Saturday 11:00AM - 11:00PM

The American Royal World Series of Barbecue is celebrating its 38th year!  This celebration is more than just barbecue (Although, isn’t that really all we need?).  Come out to the Speedway to enjoy a barbecue, a rodeo, a car show,  a beer garden, live music and carnival rides.

Ticket prices vary by event and may be purchased online.  

September 1st - 4th, 10:00AM - 7:00PM

It’s opening weekend of the Kansas City Renaissance Festival!  Huzzah!

You can purchase advance tickets online for a discounted rate of $18.95 (plus a $2 convenience fee), or at the gate for $21.95, children (6-12 years) are available for $10.50 (plus $2 convenience fee) in advance or $12.95 at the gate.  Season passes are also available. Parking is free.

Tickets start at $6.50 (plus taxes and fees) and are available online.

FC Kansas City vs. Sky Blue FC
Sunday, September 3rd @ 5:00PM, Swope Soccer Village

Tickets start at $15 (plus taxes and fees) and may be purchased online.
