KANSAS CITY WEEKEND EVENTS | OCTOBER 13, 14 & 15

It’s Friday the 13th!!!!  Sounds like a perfect date to tour Kansas City’s haunted houses.  There are so many activities in Kansas City this weekend and the people are out!  Don’t let the chance for thunderstorms stop you from getting out and enjoying some of these fun events.  Grab your raincoat and umbrella and enjoy your weekend!  I included a lot of Facebook event pages to watch for weather updates.  This post contains affiliate links.  I love to share my favorite finds, and all opinions are always mine.



FESTIVALS

Friday, October 13th @ 5:00PM - Midnight, Saturday the 14th @ 11:00AM to Midnight & Sunday the 15th @ Noon - 10:00PM
Weston Brewing Company at O’Malley’s Pub

This three-day festival has been going strong since 2000.  Start the Weston Irish Fest off with Friday night at O’Malley’s Pub.  Enjoy a full menu from America Bowman Restaurant with authentic Irish dishes and a full service bar.  Tickets are $10 on Friday and $15 on Saturday and Sunday and can be purchased online or at the door (Save $5 if purchased online). Saturday, October 14th @ Noon - 6:00PM
Midtown KC  (Point of Reference for Navigation:  3616 Bellevue Avenue, Kansas City, MO)

Have you heard of PorchfestKC?  It’s celebrating its 4th year!   It is an amazing experience, walking the sidewalks of a historic Kansas City neighborhood while being serenaded by local bands.  Bring your lawn chairs, tips for bands and your friends!  You can park for free at Roanoke Park, or for $5 at KC Life on 35th west of Broadway or at the Citizens of the World Elementary on the east side of Broadway at 35th.  

Download the map to see participating porches and a schedule of performances.  No coolers please.  There will be food trucks to keep you satiated.  Check out the Facebook event page for celebration updates.

Saturday, October 14th @ 10:00AM - 4:00PM
Shoal Creek Living History Museum

If you haven’t been to the Shoal Creek Living History Museum, you should go!  This weekend’s Harvest Festival is an old-fashioned County Fair.  There will be Historical games, 19th Century Re-enactments, music, face painting, pony rides and pumpkins!  Enjoy a horse drawn wagon ride from Noon to 4:00 for $1!  Stop by and tour the grounds.  Entry is $5 per person (children 5 and under are FREE).  Check out the Facebook event page for event updates.

Saturday, October 14th @ 10:00AM - 3:00PM
Prairiefire (5661 W 135th St, Overland Park, KS)

Enjoy live music, giant games, a petting zoo, pumpkin decorating, face painters and food and drink at Prairiefire.  Get ou to the rain by taking a walk through the Museum or bowling at Pinstripes.

Saturday, October 14th & Sunday, October 15th @ 10:00AM - 7:00PM
Fair Grounds (633 N 130th St., Bonner Springs, KS)

It is the FINAL WEEKEND of the Kansas City Renaissance Festival!  Get your Huzzah on one last time.  This weekend’s theme is Witches & Wizards.  Show up in your favorite costume for the contest at 1:15, play villager bingo 
Purchase tickets online or at the gate.  Website states event is rain or shine.


OCTOBER HAUNTS

October 14th @ 6:00PM - 9:00PM, Tours on-the-hour, every hour
1855 Harris-Kearney House Museum and Westport Historical Society (4000 Baltimore Avenue, Kansas City, MO)

This haunting tour is $15 per person, includes tour and Civil War ghost stories around the campfire while roasting marshmallows.  Tours are also available on October 21st and 28th.  Tickets can be purchased online.

October 14th @7:30PM - 9:30PM

This concert presented by The Kansas City Chorale features the spookiest and scariest choral music of Pizzetti, Orban, Tavener, Smirnov and Mantyarvi.  Tickets are $30 for adults and $10 for students (plus taxes and fees) and can be purchased online.

Union Cemetery Historical Society (227 E 28th Terrace, Kansas City, MO)

Okay…I am seriously intrigued with this event.  It includes reading from MORE SCARY STORIES books.  I mean…those were the BEST!

Shocktoberfest: Friday the 13th Part 1 & 2  & An American Werewolf in London
Friday, October 13th @ 9:00PM & Saturday, October 14th @ 9:30PM
Screenland Armour

What better way to “celebrate” Friday the 13th than watching the classic movie at Screenland Armour?  Tickets are $15 (plus taxes and fees) for the double feature on Friday and $10 (plus taxes and fees) on Saturday.

Alamo Drafthouse Kansas City

“Who ya gonna call?”  Watch the movie with your friends while fending of ghost with glow stick, noshing on marshmallows, and scratch n’ sniff smell-cards (you have to come back and tell me about those!).  Tickets are $13 (plus taxes and fees) and can be purchased online

IT’S A DOGS’ WORLD

Wagon’ Trail Dog Park
October 14th @ 1:00PM - 2:30PM

Come out for the costume contest, treats and door prizes!  Large dog contest starts at 1:15PM and small dogs are at 1:30PM.  There will be a donation drive to support the Friends of Markville Animal Shelter.  Please bring a $5 donation to participate (however, there is no fee).

Sing in the rain, enjoy a movie in, or put on your poncho and head to the stadium.  With so many Kansas City events this weekend, you will surely be exhausted on Monday!
